Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Colby continues to be a vocal presence in the dugout, bringing positive energy to the ball field every day. Defensively at 2B, he worked to make the routine plays and had easy double play feeds. Offensively, he showed pull side and gap pop with leverage hitting off a stiff front side with plus front side extension. He worked the middle of the field with his approach and began driving with his lower half in the cages. On the mound, he threw his FB with tail from 79-81, spun a 10/4 CB from 67-68, and showed an exceptional CH from 72-73 with tail and feel. He had a repeatable tempo and fielded his position well. His FB/CH combo are fit for the next level and with additional feel for his CB will have an interchangeable 3 pitch mix. In all - Colby is a good worker that has the energy necessary to continue his growth for the next level.

02/22/2015 - College PREP - Mechanicsburg (Harrisburg), PA Colby showed his best ability to date on the mound at his most recent outing with Baseball Factory. On the hill, he threw his fastball from 76-77, spun a tight 11/5 CB from 63-65, and showed feel for a cutting CH from 71-74. Mechanically, he gathered over the rubber, worked quickly, and threw a lot of strikes. He had free/loose arm action and finished by rotating to his target, getting his chest over his front knee. Defensively, he worked to make plays and had good energy to field and throw. A more consistent fielding position with his hands in front is key to his further progression. Offensively, he got to his hitting position on-time and showed signs of having rhythm. He was balanced throughout his swing and with a more direct route will hit with greater pop. Overall - Colby continues to project on the bump with another 2.5 years left to develop strength and command.

02/23/2014 - College PREP - Mechanicsburg (Harrisburg), PA Colby is a freshman RHP with a lengthy/lean projectable build. On the bump, he throws three pitches with a FB that tops out at 70 MPH. He throws two off-speed pitches (CB/CH) for some feel, with his 11/5 CB being the better of the two. He has raw mechanics and stays compact. A long toss program and general strength will increase overall pitch ability. Offensively, he hit with a direct barrel and level path. He was simple with his approach and had good barrel accuracy. Overall - Maun has decent, raw ability to build off of over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
