10/10/2012 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Morris continues to show solid play in his baseball abilities in the IF. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks ground balls while displays soft / clean hands. He needs to increase foot speed and build more arm strength to continue to improve defensive / arm grade. At the plate, Colby shows an athletic setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through the ball at contact. He shows a feel for the barrel with power numbers continuing to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and displays a positive attitude.

08/06/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Colby showed well in the middle INF and at the plate and improved in all aspects of his game during his time at Pirate City. Defensively, Colby has a good set-up, he works around the ball well, and he fields out in front. He has a clean / quick exchange and can throw from different arm slots to his target. At the plate, Colby has a solid set-up, he has a strong front side, and his hands are in a good hitting position. He gets good extension through the ball and uses his lower 1/2. Colby has a good idea of the game, is very coachable and plays the game hard.

06/10/2012 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Colby is an athletic 2nd baseman who will graduate in 2013. Defensively, Colby has soft / sure hands, active feet, and he presents his glove well. He has decent lateral movements, makes plays, and gets rid of the ball quickly. Colby has a loose arm action and he throws with accuracy to his target. Defensive grades can get better if Colby can play more low to high and with added arm strength. At the plate, Colby has a square / athletic set-up, a smooth load, and good balance. He has an aggressive swing, fast bat speed, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. Staying short to the ball and using more lower 1/2 can help hitting spike.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
