09/13/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Ruther Glen (Richmond), VA Colby continues to shine on the diamond as a prospect. At the plate he a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation into a strong launch position. Barrel is whipped through the zone (87 mph exit velocity) as he connects with strength. Defensively at 1B, he shows active prep with fluid actions. He works around the GB and through it as he gains ground toward his target. Footwork around the bag is solid and he is a quality receiver. Exchange is clean with accurate throws but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. Backhand is smooth with a quick release. On the mound, delivery is sound and repeatable allowing his arm action to work well to the plate. Fastball showed range of 75-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with slight sink. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

07/30/2020 - Summer Pro Training Experience - MD (HS) Colby continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he shows smooth actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 79 mph. Fastball shows good tailing action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

04/07/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Bowie, MD Colby continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the bump, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work loose / clean to the plate. He works through a quick tempo and shows a 3 pitch mix. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 71 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Building more arm strength through a long toss program will aid in improving stock on the mound.

01/18/2019 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Colby is a coachable 1B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Spring Training at Pirate City. In the field, Colby makes the routine plays and works to make accurate throws to his target. Getting into a more atheltic fielding position can help Colby improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and works to barrel up the baseball. Colby can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Colby gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with his chest over his front knee. Colby shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 70mph. Breaking ball sits at 52mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 54-60mph. Lengthening his arm action can help Colby improve as a pitcher. With two more years to develop, Colby has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

12/08/2018 - Mid-Atlantic Regional Accelerated Hitting Weekend (Ages 14-18) Colby is an athletic and tall 2021 prospect that made several adjustments throughout the Mid Atlantic Hitting Weekend. At the plate, Colby starts in an athletic stance, loads his hands back into the drive position, and gets his front foot down on time. He consistently finds the barrel and drives the ball to all fields. He needs to continue to attack the inside part of the ball and stay compact through the zone. Colby will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
