01/21/2019 - College PREP - Mesa (Phoenix), AZ Colby is a strong, athletic C/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times showed in the 1.95 range with accuracy and on line zip to his throws. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, he has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped (82 mph exit velocity) through the zone as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-80 mph with arm side run / sink. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Colby has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
