12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Ruiter is a hardworking OF with plus makeup as he is a great team player and is very coachable. He did show on the mound for the first time at the event but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. In the OF, he utilizes his athletic feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles as he works to get behind balls and plays through well with momentum to his target. Game awareness is a plus as he back up bases and is always where he should be. Arm strength is outstanding as well with throws displaying accuracy, life, and on line carry through his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup and strong lower half. He keeps barrel through the ball at contact with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual breaking action. Control is well above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

08/04/2013 - College PREP - Omaha, NE, IA Colby is a solid, athletic OF that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 7.03 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with life and on line carry into his target. At the plate, Ruiter continues to shine through an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a short / level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Colby has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
