01/08/2017 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Colby is a strong, athletic C/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are aggressive and active as he works in line to his target, through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show in the 1.96 range with accuracy and on line carry to his throws. He will control the running game with his feet and arm. Receiving skills are solid as he displays an athletic setup with soft hands that stick balls in the zone. He shows off his athletic abilities through the blocking process as he is a wall behind the plate. On the mound, he continues to shine. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength is solid as indicated by his top velocity of 82 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with tailing action. Off speed stuff show potential as being quality pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Colby has a ton of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
