03/16/2014 - Interactive Video Program - Bowie, MD Cole worked out both on the mound and in the OF during his time in Bowie. In the OF, Cole has good quickness, soft / sure hands, and he attacks the ball aggressively. He has proper footwork, a clean exchange, and he throws with carry to his target. On the mound, Cole has a free arm action, he tucks his glove well, and he extends well through his pitches. At the plate, Cole has a square set-up, an activated load, and a level swing. He has direct hands to the ball, he stays inside it well, and he uses his lower body. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Outfield
1. Play under control
2. Field ground balls out front
3. Long toss
Pitching
1. Stay tall
2. Eyes on target
3. Finish / Extension
Offense
1. Balance
2. Load / stride
3. Strength

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Cole is a solid young player who showed good confidence on the field. In the outfield he displayed good pre-pitch movement and solid arm strength but he needs to take better routes to the ball and increase lateral quickness. On the mound Cole has a repeatable delivery, good arm action, balance and throws strikes. Improvement can be made by lengthening his stride, using his legs more, and getting more extension on his finish. At the plate Cole showed good plate discipline and balance. He can improve by correcting his grip, getting better load and developing more rhythm.

09/28/2013 - Pitcher/Catcher Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 14-18) Cole is a young athletic pitcher with a long/loose arm action. He displays a controlled balance point, level shoulders, and a good direction to the plate. His curveball has a 11/5 gradual break and his change up shows good sink and arm speed. Cole is able to locate all three pitches for strikes, keeping hitters off balance. Getting a better push with his back side while keeping his back foot planted will help him lengthen his stride and increase velocity. Cole is a young hard worker and projects well in the future, it will be interesting to see where he ends up.

11/15/2012 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Cole Gerardi is a 2018 graduate who plays shortstop and also pitches. He also played some outfield at this event. In the infield Cole is an athletic fielder and he works well around the ball to keep it in front. He has some range in the field and active footwork, showing an ability to keep the ball in front. He can work on his angles through the ball, as well as on getting rid of the ball quicker once fielded. As an outfielder, he showed a good arm and fielded the ball well with two hands at the highest point. He can work on throwing through the cut off man towards his target. At the plate Cole has a balanced set up, and makes consistent contact. He sprays the ball to all fields and pieced together some quality at bats during the camp games. He can work on having more balance in his lower half. On the mound Cole has a great mound presence with a good running fastball. He shows the ability to throw two pitches for strikes with his curve ball showing a tight 11/5 shape He was able to show a good feel for pitching during the games and has a bright future on the mound. His ability to play multiple positions effectively is another positive about Cole's game.

09/08/2012 - Infield Accelerated Training Weekend (Commuter) (Ages 12-14) Cole is a young player who displays great body control and athleticism. Overall Cole can continue to work on his approach to the ball. His footwork is active displaying quick feet and soft hands. His first step is strong allowing him to work from right to left as he fields. Cole's feet allow him to get into a good position but needs to work on setting up earlier getting better separation (Right, Left, Field). His late separation creates him to field the ball deep with his body staying tall. Cole's greatest tool is his arm strength and accuracy; he gets rid of the ball quick with good life to his throws. He can continue to focus on shortening his arm action as he gets older but at this time it plays as above average for his age. With a couple of years to develop before high school Cole displays abilities with room to continue to improve. With better fundamentals he should turn out to be a special player at the next level.

07/25/2012 - Interactive Video Program - Frederick, MD Cole is a young infielder who worked out at SS for us. Defensively, Cole has good hands, playable feet, and he moves well to the glove side. He has a clean exchange, and throws with a long arm action with accuracy to his target. At the plate, Cole has a square set-up, good balance, and he can spray to all fields. He has a level swing and he puts the ball in play. Abilities can improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Field out in front
2. Long toss
3. Play lower
Offense
1. Shorten swing
2. Lower 1/2

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
