Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

07/17/2010 - Team One West 2010 - Scouting Report Cole continues to show good abilities in his game as he approaches his Senior year. At SS, Cole has active feet, works in a low position, and he moves through the ball well. He takes solid angles to the baseball and he squares to his target well before delivering the ball. Added arm strength will only help defensive numbers get even stronger. On the mound, Cole is an aggressive Pitcher with a loose arm and good direction toward the plate. He tucks his glove well, he stays closed, and he has a good presence on the hill. Mound effectiveness can further improve if Cole can work to throw on a downhill angle and keep a more still head. Offensively, Cole has a good load, quick transfer, and good bat speed. He has a live barrel, he throws his hips, and he centers the ball well on the barrel. Cole can work the ball to all fields, and if he can widen his base and improve his balance, hitting can continue to get better.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Cole participated in the UA Preseason All-America as both a RHP and SS, and currently projects better as a SS. He is a 2011 graduate and still has 2 seasons to progress at both positions. At SS, Cole's hands and feet work well together and he stays down on the baseball. His arm is accurate across the diamond, and he makes plays on balls hit his way. At the plate, Cole is equally as good from both sides of the plate. He has a good set-up, and gets good extension to the ball. A quicker load from the right side should help his hitting continue to improve. On the mound, Cole's FB touched 83 MPH, and he showed good arm speed. He uses his body well, has good wrist snap, and pitches to contact. Cole has good athleticism, mound presence and pitchability. He hides the baseball well from the hitters, and with a looser delivery, and added body weight / strength, Cole can get better on the hill. Hamilton could potentially be a two-way guy at the next level.

11/22/2009 - College PREP - Salem, OR Cole came out to the SCR 11/22/09 again as a dual position player at SS and RHP. He again had a good workout at both positions, but continues to project as a solid SS at the next level. As a Jr, Cole has excellent footwork, hands, and athleticism in the INF. His hands are soft, he fields the ball low, and he has a quick exchange from glove to hand. He has the ability to read the hops of the ball well, and also shows a plus backhand. On the mound, Cole has a loose, quick arm, and sound mechanics. His off-speed pitches show promise but Cole will need to gain velocity if he wants to pitch in College. Offensively, Cole is a talented switch hitter. His hitting and raw power from both sides of the plate are 48's. Cole has good balance, bat speed, and barrel accuracy from both sides of the plate. He sprays the ball to all fields from the left side, which currently shows as his better side. Cole is a talented young athlete with solid skills and a high ceiling.

10/21/2009 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic - 2009 Cole improved his velocity while at the Fall Classic. At SS, was aggressive as he played thru ball. Fielded ball out front with quick glove actions which allowed for quick release. Demonstrated good footwork around 2B on DP feeds and turns. As his foot speed becomes quicker, range will increase. Made accurate throws on all plays. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. At the plate, demonstrated quality separation and load as he stayed closed with swing. Had a compact swing while it was level thru hitting zone. Showed good knowledge of strike zone and always stayed within himself. As he works on outside pitch, he will be able to hit the ball effectively to opposite field. Had very good instinct as a base runner. On the mound, was aggressive as he attacked the strike zone and competed with every hitter. Showed good loose arm action as he created some downhill action on pitches. A proper glove side lead will allow him to stay closed and extend thru pitches consistently. Had good athletic actions which allowed him to effectively field his position.

06/19/2009 - USA Baseball 16U Championships (AZ) - 2009 Cole continues to show improvement in his baseball abilities. He continues to show as a two-way player but projects best at SS and at the plate where he shows off his athletic ability. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.05 runner. Defensive abilities have also improved now showing above average skills. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get the baseball with his feet and hands, playing through with a quick release. At the plate, Hamilton continues to show as a switch hitter but really showed better from the left side at the event. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He was 6 for 12 at the event with 2 2B. He is a smart, aggressive base runner that will put pressure on defenses with his foot speed. On the mound, he competes as he attacks the strikes zone with a lot of strikes. He will be a solid high school pitcher but needs to concentrate his work ethic on his play at SS and at the plate, where his future lies. Hamilton continues to impress and improve with every outing and will catch the eyes of the college coaches over the next two years with his baseball abilities.

05/24/2009 - College PREP - Monmouth, OR Cole is a SS/RHP who is very athletic and shows future potential. As of now he projects as a SS, but could develop into a very good pitcher as well as he gets bigger and stronger. As a pitcher, Cole works quickly to keep players on their toes; he works around the plate, and has good corner command. He would benefit from slowing his delivery and getting balanced at the top of his leg kick. At SS, Hamilton is athletic and light on his feet. He circles the ball allowing himself to get direct to his target, has accurate throws, and can throw from various arm angles. Cole would benefit from developing more preliminary movement to create more range from side to side. As a hitter, he is pretty balanced from both sides of the plate in that he stays inside the ball nicely to go to all fields. Cole would benefit as a hitter by getting more bat extension and by staying closed with his front side allowing him to stay on the ball longer.

12/27/2008 - Under Armour Recruiting Classic 2008 Cole has really improved since the last time that we saw him on the mound. Arm strength has improved but needs to continue to build arm strength through a strict long toss program. Off speed pitches have really improved with his changeup showing the best. He displays a great feel for as he maintains arm speed. Breaking ball is solid average as he also shows a great feel for the pitch. Delivery is smooth and repeatable as he has a solid mound presence. He attacks hitters and is around the zone with all his pitches. In the infield, Hamilton shows mobility and athletic range. Glove action is solid as he makes all the plays. At the plate, Cole is a switch hitter that will use the whole field and shows a solid feel for the barrel. With 2 years to further develop, Hamilton has the makings to be a quality arm, especially if arm strength continues to develop and possibly a two way player.

11/16/2008 - College PREP - Monmouth, OR Cole is a young, 2011 graduate two way player at SS and on the mound, with a small, thin body that does show some projection as it continues to physically mature. Currently, projects better at SS for the next level. He is a switching hitter that shows near above average ability with solid average power from the left side and solid average ability with near above average power from the right side. Bat speed is a plus from both sides. Swing path is shorter and more direct from the left side displaying a solid feel for the barrel to all fields. From the right side, swing path gets long at times allowing the barrel out around the baseball. He does show potential from both sides of the plate. Defensive abilities are near above average. Foot speed is average and will improve with age. He utilizes his feet well in coming to get and playing through the baseball. Hands and glove action are soft, solid, and sure in making all the plays. Actions are easy and athletic in his play. Arm strength is slightly average and does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. On the mound, Hamilton displays a near average breaking balls that displays a 10/4 shape with lazy, loose spin. Changeup is slightly average showing some feel for with slight sink. Fastball is straight and flat from a low ' arm slot. Cole has a ton of potential in the infield and at the plate and needs to concentrate his work in these areas. With 3 years to further develop, he has the makings to become a solid collegiate type player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
