08/16/2014 - Under Armour All-America Game, powered by Baseball Factory Cole features an advanced feel for pitching along with a quality three pitch mix. His fastball reaches into the low 90s with heavy arm side life and good downward angle. He works quickly with an up-tempo delivery, and has command of at least two pitches. His low 80's change is arguably his best secondary offering - he commands it nearly as well as his fastball, only it has more consistent and sharper action down in the zone. His older brother Carson pitched in the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game, and went on to sign with the Chicago Cubs after being selected in the 4th round of the 2014 MLB draft.

04/27/2014 - College PREP - Tallahassee, FL Cole continues to be lights out. This athlete on the bump works hard day in and day out. FB hammers the mitt, topping out at 92 mph with run. Smooth tempo and loose actions allow him to pitch with effortless actions. Breaking ball is devastating with tight/sharp break, dropping off of the table. Changeup compliments FB well with run, getting in on the RH hitter. A very projectable arm who's name should be called in next years draft.

09/21/2013 - 2013 Under Armour Futures Series East - Jupiter, FL Sands stands at 6-foot-3 and 200 pounds with length and width in his frame, giving him room to fill out. He featured command of an impressive three pitch mix, a sound delivery and an arm that worked great. He topped at 92 with his fastball, and pitched mostly 89-91 over two innings of work. The fastball was heavy, in that it didn't seem to come off the bat with any life when hitters put it in play. His breaking ball had downward action with sharp break in the mid 70's, while his change right around 80 with sink action. He worked quickly, attacked hitters, moved his fastball around the zone, and used both his curve and change with great feel. The ball exploded from his hand after a loose and free arm stroke. He maintained body control very well in his delivery, and rotated fully through to get his chest out over his front knee to drive his pitches down the slope of the mound. Overall, a well rounded pitcher that combined good mechanics with arm strength and command of a quality three pitch mix.

04/07/2013 - College PREP - Tallahassee, FL Cole is a very talented RHP/3B who has a tall and athletic build. On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix with all 3 pitches being effective. FB pounds the zone, ranging from 86-88 mph and shows sink and downward movement. SL is sharp as he is able to work both sides of the plate. CH cuts in showing arm-side run and sink. He makes it looks easy and he is smooth and effortless in his delivery. Defensively at the hot corner, he moves around the ball well and fields it out in front. He shows a clean exchange and fires the ball across the diamond accurately with a very strong arm. At the plate, Sands makes consistent/hard contact through a middle of the field approach. He gets hies lower 1/2 through and the ball shows good pop off of the barrel. As only a 2015 graduate, this large framed RHP will get big time looks over the next couple of years.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
