Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/1BPosition Projection

04/15/2012 - College PREP - Louisville, KY Sayre improved his foot speed as he ran his best 60 time to date at 7.29. In the OF, he works to get behind balls in the OF and gets rid of the ball quickly as his hands / feet work well together. Arm action is long through an over the top arm slot. At 1B, he gets into an athletic fielding position, shows active feet, and sure hands. He has a quick/clean exchange and makes consistently accurate throws to his target that show life/carry. Fielding the ball further out front and finishing on his throws will help his defensive abilities at 1B improve. At the plate, Cole shows a solid setup with balance. Hands work through a level swing path and he makes consistent contact.

11/05/2009 - Pirate City Select Training Cole is a good looking, young athlete that plays OF and Pitches. In the OF, Cole has good hands, feet, and has the ability to play all 3 OF positions. His arm improved from a 32 to a 45 from May, 2009 and with long toss program, it could become even stronger. On the mound, Cole works quickly and he gets ahead of the hitters with a consistent 1st strike. He finishes his pitches in a good athletic fielding position. If Cole can work on his mechanics, and become more fluid in his delivery, we could see velocity and overall pitching numbers improve. Offensively, Cole has good balance, bat speed, and set-up. He has a good overall idea at the plate and shows good pull side pop in his bat. Cole is a young, 2012 grad that already shows good athleticism, instincts, and play skills.

05/31/2009 - College PREP - Nashville, TN Cole is a young, tall, thin, 2012 graduate that is a 2-way player both on the mound and in the OF. He currently projects better in the OF, where he has active feet and makes plays. He releases the ball with an over the top arm slot and his throws are accurate to his target. Cole goes back on the baseball well, but will need to strengthen his arm, loosen his actions, and work to get behind the baseball for abilities to further improve. On the mound, Cole works with a good tempo, has good direction, and is around the plate. He has good glove slide lead and good direction to the plate. Normal growth and maturity, along with added arm strength will help Cole improve on the hill. At the plate, Cole is square to the ball, has good balance, and good barrel accuracy. He makes good contact and has pull side pop. A shorter, more compact stroke, and added power to the opposite field will help Cole's offensive numbers further improve. Overall, Cole is a young player with potential.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
