Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

01/13/2012 - 2012 Under Armour Pre-Season All-America Tournament Arrowood continues to show as a two-way player as RHP/1B but projects best on the mound for the next level where he has improved his abilities. Arm strength has really improved as he topped out at 85 mph through a quick, loose arm action. Fastball showed a range of 81-85 mph with sinking action. He has 3 quality off speed pitches that will get outs at the next level. His split finger is best of the 3 showing a plus feel for with sinking action. He attacks hitters, working to get ahead, and changes speeds effectively. At the event, he threw 3 quality innings. At 1B, feet are active displaying proper footwork around the bag, showing clean hands. He needs to be more aggressive while presenting his hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grades. At the plate, Coleman shows a balanced setup and tracks the ball well. His swing path is level but he needs to load more and improve bat speed to continue to improve hitting / power grades. His future is on the mound, where he has an upside.

03/13/2011 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Coleman is a tall, thin two-way player on the mound plus at 1B that will graduate in 2014. His body shows a ton of projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Foot speed is below average as he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active displaying proper foot work around the bag but needs to be more aggressive in attacking balls while playing through with his body. He is a solid receiver at 1B utilizing his tall frame while displaying playable hands. Arm strength is a plus showing life, carry, and accuracy on his throws. Offensively, Arrowood has an athletic setup allowing his hands to work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with some extension through contact. Power numbers will continue to increase as he works to keep both hands on the bat through his finish and add overall body strength. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break as he needs to work on staying on top of the ball. Changeup shows average feel for with arm side run. Delivery is repeatable as he attacks hitters throwing strikes with all his pitches. With 3 years to further develop, Coleman has a ton of potential and will catch the eyes of collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
