12/11/2020 - Baseball Factory Academic All-American Tournament Colin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, he works to a controlled balance point, has smooth separation and fires from a clean/loose arm action. He gets strong glove-side lead and stays directional toward the dish. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 81 mph. FB ranges from 78-81 mph. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Behind the dish, he presents a soft/sure mitt showing great pocket awareness sticking pitches. He uses his body through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Pop times showed have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.30 with accuracy / carry (89 mph velocity) to his target. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop.

07/05/2019 - California Select Training & Competition - Session 1 (Ages 12-14) Colin is an athletic and talented 2023 catching prospect. He showed good in game awareness and was eager to learn. Behind the dish Colin has confidence in his abilities and calls a good game. He works behind the ball and controls pitches in the strike zone when receiving. When blocking he has proper technique but needs to improve his ability to move laterally. When throwing, Colin makes accurate throws and backspin's the ball. He needs to continue to gain ground in his footwork, have a clean exchange, and quicken his release. At the plate Colin makes consistent hard contact through the middle part of the field and is aggressive on the fastball early. He attacks the inside part of the ball, keeps the barrel on plane, and has a gap to gap approach. He needs to continue to keep a quiet head and stay back on the ball. Colin brought energy to the field everyday and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
