Official Scouting Report

06/05/2011 - College PREP - River Forest (Chicago), IL Colin continues to show improvement in some areas and has developed his skills steadily over the years. He continues to show good arm strength on the mound throwing between 78-81 mph. His curve ball improved as well showing good action. At the plate he showed more strength and bat speed making good use out of his lower body. He needs to continue to work on his defensive abilities showing a high approach, deep glove and firm hands at the workout. Foot speed is another area to continue to work on. At this time his best position is on the mound but with hard work he may be able to do some of both at the next level.

01/15/2010 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2010 Shanteau continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities. On the mound, delivery has improved showing sound mechanics that allows his arm path to work clean and free away from his body. Fastball showed a range of 73-78 mph on Saturday and he came back and threw an effective inning on Sunday. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Colin displayed strong hands and strength in his swing as the baseball jumped off his bat when centered. He was 5 for 8 with 4 BB as he also displayed a solid eye. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-79 mph with sinking and running action.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Pre-Season All America - 2009 Colin is a young player with future potential. On the mound, Colin shows a balanced delivery with an above average CH and excellent arm action. A long toss program will help to increase arm strength. At SS, Colin needs to trust his hands and ability. Currently, his hands are a little stiff when fielding ground balls. At the plate, Colin has a solid approach and good bat speed. He hits a lot of line drives and he is aggressive. Colin is still very young and has years of development ahead of him. He has ability and as he gets stronger, his tool grades will increase.

12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Shanteau showed good feet and hands defensively, took good angles and made a nice play on the ball. Arm strength is his main area for improvement. At the plate, he showed an athletic swing with good hands and power potential. On the mound, he topped at 82 with his fastball. His arm worked free and easy, and he had some quickness out front at times. His curve had rolling downward action, and his change was deceptive at times. Overall, a talented young player with the makings of two-way potential at the next level.

07/17/2008 - Cape Cod Training 2008 - Week 2 Shanteau showed great hands, bat speed and hand-eye coordination at the plate. His approach was aggressive and he showed good power potential as well. Can work to let the ball travel, and to trust his hands better. On the mound, he topped at 82 - an eight mph jump from the 74 we saw last from him. His arm worked loose, easy and his delivery was balanced. He really showed a lot of potential as a pitcher, has a high ceiling and potential to excel there at the college level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
