10/16/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - San Antonio, TX Colten is an OF/RHP who will graduate in 2023. Medium frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. Ran his 60-yard dash in 6.97 seconds. In the OF, he showed ability to cover ground in all directions and make routine plays. Showed good lateral range as he works behind/through the baseball with a high 1-hand catch. Made accurate/on-line throws into infield from a high 3/4 arm slot with an arm velocity up to 80mph. On the mound, he gathers over rubber, with a clean leg lift, and stays in his legs throughout his delivery. Picks up target early and gets a good glove tuck on his frontside. He attacks hitters with a FB that sits 75-77mph with good command, a 12/6 shaped breaking ball, and a changeup with some movement that he throws with FB arm speed. At the plate, he starts with an upright and open stance. Good rhythm to his swing and gets knob to C. Intent in his swing, with some quickness to his hands, and late bat whip. A flat barrel path with extension out front as he hit line drives into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 83mph. With another year of growth and development, we foresee this 2-way player having a bright future on the baseball field.

09/11/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Corpus Christi, TX Colten is an athletic OF/RHP in the 2023 class. In the field, he has fluid feet and agile movements. Can cover ground (6.99 runner) and positions himself behind the baseball. Has athletic feel in his fielding position and catches at the highest point. Has arm strength (79 velo) and releases from a high ¾ slot. Working to keep his shoulders aligned properly will assist with his accuracy. On the mound, he works with great tempo, stays directional and maintains his eyes to the target. His FB topped at 76 and works down in the zone. His CB sat 63-65 with 10/4 shape. Working to maintain FB arm speed will provide more deception and depth on the pitch. His CH sat 71-5 and with a slight adjustment to his grip, he will be able to establish more differential from the FB. At the plate, he uses the middle of the field well. He sees the baseball and allows it to travel. Gains excellent extension with solid bat speed (82 exit velo). Overall, Colten is a solid two-way player and looks to have a big senior year.

Exclusive College Recruiting Program Colten is an athletic middle of the diamond defender who has a foundation of solid baseball skills combined with performance. A 7.0 runner with a quick first step and good routes to the ball he covers ground in the OF to project as an average to above average defender with the arm to handle CF or LF. Offensively it’s a compact swing with a feel for the barrel generating consistent hard contact from a line drive path. His approach is geared to work the middle of the field and allow himself to function as a table setter offensively and with aggressive baserunning skills he is a threat to take an extra 90 feet at any time. The frame is lean with loose actions and athleticism and he will continue to add strength and explosion as he matures. Profiles to be an above average defender in the OF with versatility on the offensive side and enough pitchability on the mound he could provide bullpen depth at the next level, but fits best as a CF/LF table-setter profile.

12/20/2021 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Colten is an OF/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during the Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Colten takes a quick first step and works behind the ball well. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. His exchange is clean and he makes accurate throws to his target. Attacking the ball more aggressively can help Colten make more plays. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and works to barrel up the baseball, producing solid line drives. Colten can create more consistent contact by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Colten gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and accelerates through his release, staying inline toward the plate. Colten operates with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 73mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits at 65mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 66-67mph with arm side run and sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Driving his lower half more can help Colten improve his pitch velocity. Overall, Colten is a solid prospect who has the potential to further build upon his skills on the field.

10/24/2021 - All-In Membership - San Angelo, TX Colten is a class of 2023 OF/RHP. He showed a medium frame with lots of room to continue to fill out. Showed off above average foot speed running his 60 yard sprint in only 7.12 seconds. In the outfield, he showed a good natural ability to read the ball off the bat. Did a good job flipping his hips and showing his athleticism when ranging to the baseball. Shows good fundamentals and the ability to secure the baseball throughout the transfer process. At the plate, he showed good feel for the barrel and an ability to hit the ball to all parts of the field. Showed good hand/hip separation and a good bat angle through the zone. Exit velos were as high as 78 MPH. On the mound, this right handed pitcher showed good mechanics and the ability to keep his eyes on the target. Showed off a 3 pitch mix including a fastball up to 72 MPH along with a curveball and changeup. Colten is a good player that we hope to see again in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
