04/13/2014 - National Tryout - Louisville, KY Colton continues to work hard on the diamond. At the plate he has made adjustments and improved a lot. He displays an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to get back into a loaded position. Barrel delivery is quick through a short/direct path. He creates extension through contact and drives the ball. At the hot corner, Allen moves well right and left and fields the ball cleanly. He has a quick exchange and fires accurate throws across the diamond. Behind the plate, he tracks it into the zone and receives with a soft mitt. He has a quick arm and clean exchange, firing accurate throws to 2B. Only a 2018 grad - Colton still has a lot of time to develop his game.

11/14/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City Colton is a young Catcher that shows a passion for the game. Behind the plate, he showed a good setup when receiving, his hands are firm and tracks the ball well. Defensively he can continue to improve on his blocking skills and shorten up his arm action to improve catching grades. At the plate, Colton has a great feel for the barrel and it showed in the games going 5 for 8 during his live at bats. His lower half stays strong through contact displaying good balance. He can focus on making sure he gets good separation in his load while using more top hand to drive the baseball. Overall, Colton shows abilities with room for improvement as he physically matures.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
