02/18/2019 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Colton continues to show progress on the diamond. On the mound, he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and extends through on his release, staying inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 72 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball sits from 61-63 mph with gradual break. Changeup sits from 63-64 mph with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride. He drives through well with his lower half and makes solid contact. Hand are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and he shows a solid feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. Overall, Colton has abilities with a lot of room to continue to progress his game.

02/19/2018 - College PREP - Beverly Hills (Detroit), MI Colton is an athletic LHP/OF prospect who will graduate in 2020. On the mound, Colton keeps his eyes on his target throughout his motion and works inline towards the plate. He shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 65-69mph with 2-8 break. Changeup ranges from 67-71mph with cutting action as he throws with fastball arm speed. Colton can improve as a pitcher by finishing with his chest over his front knee. In the field, Colton gains ground when moving to the ball and fields the ball out in front of his body. He has a clean exchange and makes consistently on-line throws to his target. Colton can improve defensively by being more aggressive ranging to the ball. At the plate, this LHH sets up in a tall stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and leads well with his lower half. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to square contact and line drives. Colton can improve as a hitter by letting the away pitch travel deeper into the zone. Overall, Colton is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
