  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Colton is a SS/RHP who is a prospect at both positions. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter but projects slightly better as a RHH. He has strong/centered balance with fluid rhythm to load. He takes an absolute hack - crushing the ball to the deep parts of the park (exit velocity = 88 mph). In the MIF, are at a pro level as he displays quick / athletic actions. He has plus lateral range, working from the ground-up with smooth actions. Transfer is quick as he fires strong throws zipping across the diamond. He continues to show as an upside on the bump. This righty has a 3 pitch arsenal in which to keep hitters guessing. Arm strength is outstanding by his top velocity to date at 86 mph. FB jumps out of his hand and shows with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. He works tall and drives downhill, repeating well. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Colton will play at a very high level and make an immediate impact, possibly as a two-way guy.

06/03/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Colton continues to show a promising future on the diamond. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 86 mph. Fastball showed solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. At SS, he utilizes his outstanding foot quickness to cover a lot of ground and displaying plus range. Hands / feet work well together and he shows big play potential in the MIF. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. Colton has a big upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
