07/01/2013 - College PREP - Erie, PA Colton is a tall and thin SS/RHP who can swing it. Offensively, he shows good balance and patience as he tracks the ball into the zone. He makes hard contact and uses the whole field. Driving his backside lower 1/2 will help to increase power at the plate. At SS, he is sure handed and makes the plays. Colton works to get around the ground ball and into a square fielding position. Presenting his glove out in front will help to avoid getting the in-between hops. On the bump, Messina has a 3-pitch mix. He is long and free toward the plate working in-line and downhill. He keeps the ball down in the zone and finishes out over his front side. Off-speed are best pitches as his CB shows 11/5 shape while CH has sink. A long toss program and more lower 1/2 drive will help to increase FB velocity. Colton has solid tools and will only continue to get better as he is a 2015 graduate.
