Official Scouting Report

  • 4Class Rating
  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Colton is a strong and athletic 2019 LHP/OF prospect. In the OF, Colton creates angles to the ball and makes good accurate throws. Beating the ball to the spot and playing through the ball will make him a more complete outfielder. At the plate, Colton starts in an athletic stance and gets his front foot down on time. He loads his hands into the launch position and shows pull side pop. Continuing to attack the inside part of the ball and using the lower half will allow him to get extension through contact. On the bump, Colton stays balanced over the rubber, uses the lower half, and controls the running game. Keeping a firm glove side and working down hill will allow him to attack the bottom half of the zone. Developing his secondary pitches will elevate his game on the mound. Colton has good mound presence and works hard. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

08/06/2017 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Colton is a tall, solid LHP/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.24. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an open. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he utilizes his feet well in tracking down balls through proper routes / angles and utilizes two hands well through the fielding process. He works to get behind balls playing through with momentum to his target. Range is outstanding as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground. Arm strength is outstanding (88 mph velocity) with life, accuracy, and on line carry to his throws. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Colton has the makings of a special type player with time and room to improve his game, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
