Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/LHPPosition Projection

03/10/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Colton showed some nice improvements in his all around game during his last workout in Plainview. He raised velocity to 60 MPH, hitting grades improved, as well as INF skills. At 1B, Colton fields aggressively, he has a good 1st step to the ball, and he moves well around the bag. He makes plays, keeps the ball in front of his body, and throws with a long arm action to his target. On the mound, Colton has a clean arm circle, good balance, and he separates on time. He has a controlled landing toward home plate and is around the zone with his pitches. Offensively, Colton improved hitting numbers to 25 and 28 respectively. He has a tall/open stance, good balance, and he is short to the ball. Colton swings a level stick and uses his lower body.

06/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (Ages 12-14) Colton is a coachable 1B/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series. In the field, Colton works to make the routine plays and plays through the ball. Colton can improve defensively by getting into an athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and barrels up the baseball. Colton can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Colton gathers over the rubber and keeps his eyes on his target. His fastball tops out at 57mph. Breaking ball sits at 47mph with 2-8 break. Changeup sits at 51mph with good sinking action. Colton can improve as a pitcher by separating his hands earlier in his motion. With five more years to develop, Colton has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
