Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

03/15/2015 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Connor showed as a C/RHP and continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities, projecting best behind the plate for the next level. At the plate, he continues to show as switch hitter and has really improved his abilities from the left side, now showing well above average potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball and utilizes all fields, displaying gap to gap pop from both sides. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.03 with accuracy, life, and on line carry, displaying outstanding arm strength. Receiving/blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Instincts behind the plate are outstanding as displays outstanding leadership abilities. On the mound, fastball showed good arm side run in the 75 mph range. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break and he throws a knuckleball with lots of rotation. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, throws more strikes and develops better off speed stuff. Clark has a promising future on the diamond and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

11/02/2014 - National Tryout - Midland, TX Clark has really improved his baseball abilities in all areas. At the plate is where he has improved the most, showing as a RHH with well above average hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands ae quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more aggressively. Behind the plate, he threw his lowest pop time to date at 2.07. Hands / feet work well together through his transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Times will continue to drop as he continues to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level.

03/17/2013 - College PREP - Plainview (Lubbock), TX Connor improved in a few areas of his game since we last saw him. He ran his lowest 60 time to date, not running a 7.38. Behind the plate, this backstop sits in well. He moves well laterally, centering balls in the dirt off of his chest. On the mound, FB now tops out at 76 mph and shows slight run. He is continuing to increase his arm strength which will only benefit him on the mound. CB is his best pitch as it shows 11/5 shape and gradual break. He works smoothly and in-line toward the plate. At the plate, this right-handed hitter has a tall setup and simple approach. He squares the ball up and has the ability to use the whole field. Clark continues to make great strides in his game and will continue to do so as he is only a freshman.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Connor is a tall/athletic 2016 graduate who plays Catcher and also is a RHP. He has an above average arm and he throws over the top. Behind the plate Connor displayed soft/sure hands, low set-up, quick/efficient footwork, good agility, centers the ball and keeps his head down when blocking, release is in-line and quick. He could use some work on receiving, specifically sticking frame. On the mound Connor showed a controlled/tall balance point, separation is on-time, he is in-line and he has an athletic finish. His head causes him problems with control and he has a tendency to overthrow. He needs to keep his head still and throw the ball "within himself". At the plate Connor has a tall stance, he has a load, Stride is square, lower is on-time, makes hard, consistent contact, timing is good, swing path is on-plane and he has average bat speed. As a righty Connor needs to finish his swing, he has a tendency to cut off at the end. From the left side he is a timing hitter which causes him to be late on fastballs and early on off-speed pitches. He needs to be more balanced. Connor is a very coach-able/good kid who has a bright future in baseball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
