Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/2BPosition Projection

07/17/2010 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Connor is a strong, loose, very athletic Shortstop / 3rd baseman that will graduate in 2011. Connor has good actions, a soft glove, and he fields the ball cleanly. He has a solid frame, he fields the ball out in front of his body, and has a plus arm, with carry to his target. Connor showed best at 3rd base during his time at Team One West. Offensively, Connor has loose hands, he centers the ball well, and he has solid bat speed. He has a quiet approach, great load, and ball explodes off of his barrel. Connor has power to all fields and more aggressiveness will only help abilities get even better. Connor shows the ability to be an impact player both offensively and defensively at the next level.

01/16/2009 - Under Armour Preseason All America - 2009 Joe ran his best 60 time to date, cutting 2 tenths off his 60 time, now a 7.48 runner. His feet are efficient but do need to be more aggressive in coming to get ground balls in the infield. Arm strength continues to show near above average and will benefit by building more arm strength through a strict long toss program. At the plate, Conner continues to show best. Hands are quick and direct to the baseball, generating bat speed. He maintains solid balance and displays late explosion through the baseball. With 2 years to further develop, Joe has the makings to be a special type player at the next level.

10/24/2008 - Team One Futures Showcase Connor continues to show steady improvement in all skills. Foot speed continues to improve as he ran his best home to 1B time and his feet are playing much quicker in the middle of the infield. At the plate, Joe continues to show a ton of future ability. Lower half is solid and he transfer weight well through his swing. The baseball jumps off his bat when centered. He was 1 for 2 at the plate with a shot at LF. If he continues to work and improve, Connor may be a prospect by his senior year.

06/29/2008 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Connor has a ton of potential ability for the next level. He has improved his baseball tools since the last time that we saw him. Foot speed has improved but he needs to continue to work to improve in order to play in the middle of the infield at the next level, currently more suited for 3B. Arm strength is above average displaying life and carry across the diamond. Glove action is soft and sure. He does need to be more aggressive with his feet in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet. At the plate is where Joe really shines. Hitting skills are well above average as he sits in and displays plus, plus bat speed. He shows a feel for the barrel and keeps the barrel through the baseball at the point of contact. Power is there as he drove a ball over the left field wall and hit a 2B off the centerfield wall. He will hit at the next level. Conner has a big upside and will draw a lot of attention to himself due to his baseball abilities. He is young 2011 graduate will a lot of time to continue to develop.

02/10/2008 - National Tryout - El Cajon, CA Joe has really improved since the last time that we laid our eyes on him. He shows outstanding ability at the plate with outstanding power to all fields. His approach and swing path are quick, simple, and solid. He shows above average arm strength with life and carry across the diamond. His feet and hands are smooth, quick, and sure. His foot speed should continue to improve as his body continues to physically mature. He has the makings to become a stud at the next level, especially for a 2011 graduate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
