  • 1B/CPosition Projection

10/09/2013 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic Connor continues to show solid abilities in his game. Offensively, he uses his lower 1/2 well to generate pop off of his barrel. He drives to ball to the gaps and will be a run producer. At the event he went 5 for 9 with a HR, 3 singles and a double. At 1B, he maintains active footwork, shows good bag awareness and can get to almost everything thrown his way. He presents his glove out in front and picks the ball cleanly. Behind the plate, Underwood sticks the ball and frames well. He calls a good game and works well with his pitchers. Connor should have success this upcoming season.

07/29/2013 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Underwood improved his hitting grades at the event, now showing superior hitting abilities with outstanding power through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating tremendous bat speed to and through a level swing path, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat when centered. He will hit and hit with power at the next level. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.05. Arm strength has improved with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry into his target. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level. At 1B, he displays proper footwork at the next level and is a quality receiver, showing soft / clean hands. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a hard worker.

07/08/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One West Underwood only showed at 1B at the event but continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.28 runner. He displays proper foot work around the bag and is a solid receiver. Arm strength has improved with throws displaying accuracy and on line carry on his throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path, creating extension. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power.

03/17/2013 - College PREP - Carson, CA Connor is a promising junior 1B/C that hits and hits for power. Connor displays a gap-to-gap approach with authority and is aggressive attacking the zone. He generates explosive bat speed and maintains fluidity and balance. At first base, he has a smooth tempo with his active feet and sure hands. He has natural instincts every where on the field and has good intangibles. Behind the dish, he tracks well and works around balls to receive. His blocking is solid and he shows an ability to deaden the ball with a soft chest. Currently, Connor projects best at first base and will be able to focus more on his offensive game at that corner spot.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
