01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Cooper is a solid/projectable RHH 1B who can swing it. At the plate, he displays a tall/athletic stance with a solid base. He has fluid rhythm to load and gets good hand separation in a strong leverage position. He swings against a firm front side, engages his lower 1/2 and creates extension through contact. At 1B, Allen hustles to GB's hit to his right and left. He presents his glove out in front in a low/athletic fielding position. He is a big target that INF's like to throw to as he moves around the 1B bag well, Cooper will fit nicely in the middle of a line-up at the next level.

08/06/2017 - College PREP - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Cooper continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, defensive abilities have improved as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He moves well laterally, showing plus range on the corner. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved with outstanding power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path with late explosion. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. The baseball comes off his bat a little differently when centered.

Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 83 mph. Fastball shows solid arm side run as he works on a strong downhill plane. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with tight spin and late breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with cutting action. At the plate, power potential is now outstanding as he has strength in his swing with baseball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying gap to gap pop. 12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Cooper is a strong kid with a solid physical body that is well suited for his position. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he has improved his footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square balls up, displaying clean hands with defensive grade improving as he attacks balls more, plays through, and continues to increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows a balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with strength in his swing as he makes consistent hard contact, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-77 mph. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed, showing a solid feel for with sinking action. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break as he needs to work to stay on top of pitch more. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program, works to throw strikes with all his pitches, and develops better off speed stuff. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/26/2013 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City Cooper did a very nice job at Pirate City. He displayed above average arm strength, soft/sure hands and solid footwork but his fielding position is too narrow and arm action needs work. As a pitcher Cooper showed a good body, balance point, rhythm, he works downhill; finish is balanced and was in the zone. He can improve by keeping his front side closed, drive lower half more and get more extension out front. At the plate Cooper showed good strength, rhythm and on-plane swing path. Areas for improvement are using the lower half more, refraining from drifting through the ball and selecting better pitches.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
