06/02/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Cooper continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 90 mph. Fastball showed solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a plus feel for the pitch with arm side run. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs at the next level. Control is outstanding as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. Cooper has a tremendous upside on the mound and will get looks from pro scouts and could be a solid draft pick in 2019.

10/28/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures West Cooper is a talented LHP who performed very well at the Futures West event. He struck out 5 of the 8 hitters he faced using a deceptive delivery with quality stuff. He varies the tempo of his delivery, showing a bit of personality on the mound, and his arm stroke and release work to hide the ball well from the hitter. Hitters did not react well to the upper 80s fastball that he threw to both sides of the plate He also landed a 2-plane curve and threw his change for strikes. As a testament to the respect hitters have for Cooper there were several in the dugout looking at the lineup in hopes that they wouldn't have to face him. He's athletic as well, swinging the bat with authority from the left side during batting practice. This LHP has a quality 3-pitch mix and the confidence on the mound you look for in a prospect.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
