Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1BPosition Projection

06/23/2011 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - Week 2 Halpern showed similar abilities at 1st base in Omaha, and also got some work in on the mound. Defensively, Cooper has playable hands and feet, and a solid set-up. He works around the ball well, makes the routine play, and he squares his body well to his target. On the mound Cooper has good balance, a solid front side, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. He throws his CB in all counts, he spots his FB well, and he finishes out over his front knee. Offensively, Cooper has good balance, he tracks the ball well, and he shows a decent overall idea. He has a good eye for the strike zone and he puts the ball in play going 1 for 4 with 5 walks and a sac fly during game play.

07/10/2010 - Cape Cod Training 2010 - Session 1 Cooper is a young (2013) 1B with solid, strong frame that is well suited for his position. Feet are active, displaying proper footwork around the bag as he displays soft, sure hands with ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He presents a solid target at 1B. Throws flash carry through a loose arm action as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program. Offensively is where Halpern shows best through a solid setup. He has strength in his hands and swing with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. His best tool may be his makeup as he is a quality young man that loves to work hard. With 3 years to further develop, Cooper has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
