Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/15/2021 - 2021 Baseball Factory Pre-Season All-America Tournament (FL) Cooper is a well-rounded SS/RHP that showed the ability to be productive on both sides of the ball. At SS, Cooper shows effective footwork off the bat with plus range. He presents a confident glove as he fields making clean exchanges with the ability to deliver the throw from multiple arm slots. His throws are consistent and online to the bag. Hitting, Cooper sets up in a square stance and takes a short stride with smooth rhythm. He fires his lower half well creating fast bat speed getting the barrel on plane. His contact is consistent with a sound line drive approach. On the mound, Cooper pitches with a 4-pitch FB, CB, SL, CH. The FB is 83-86 with some life, the CB is 72-75 with 11-5 sharp break, 67-69 with the slider, and the CH is 72-74 with good sink. Pitching, Cooper shows great poise and balance. He gathers over the rubber well showing a loose and clean arm action as he strides down the mound. He keeps the stride square and delivers the pitch with confidence. Cooper showed that he can be a competitive 2-way player that can produce on the mound, in the field, and at the plate.

12/27/2020 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Pittsburgh, PA Cooper is an athletic SS/RHP who is a top prospect on the mound. At the plate, hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. Defensively, he takes a quick first step and has plus lateral range as indicated by his superior foot speed of 7.02. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip (93 mph velocity) on his throws. Defensive abilities are at a near pro level as he shows big play potential. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 84-86 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with tailing action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitchers that will get outs. Command / control is outstanding as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. With 2 years to further develop, Cooper has a big upside on the mound and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two way player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
