Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2018 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic (Ages 14-18) Cooper continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. Range will continue to increase as he improves foot quickness. At the plate, he shows a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a compact swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. On the mound. Fastball shows a range of 70-76 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

11/10/2018 - College PREP - Fremont (San Jose), CA Cooper is a lean RHP/1B prospect who will graduate in 2022. On the mound, Cooper keeps his eyes on target as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and stays inline towards the plate. Cooper shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 77mph with tailing action. Curveball sits from 58-63mph with 11-5 break. Slider sits from 63-65mph. Changeup sits from 63-67mph. Cooper can improve as a pitcher by getting more extension through his release. In the field, Cooper shows active footwork and flashes good range to his glove side. He gets into a low position and fields the ball with firm hands. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate and on-line to his target. Increasing his bag awareness on double plays can help Cooper improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and maintains center balance. He gets into his load and leads well with his lower half. He gets good extension through the ball which leads to consistent contact to all fields. Cooper can improve as a hitter by taking a more level swing path. With four more years to develop, Cooper has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
