Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/1BPosition Projection

08/03/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Corbin is a hard worker who showed well during his time at Pirate City. On the mound, this righty works at a quick pace, not allowing hitters to get settled. He has strong glove-side lead, works in-line toward the dish and repeats his delivery well. Arm whip is quick as his FB has life with sink & tail (78-79 mph). Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape as he maintains FB arm speed throughout the pitch. He keeps runners on base close as he varies his looks and pick-offs. He works ahead in the counts as he attacks hitters with FB early in the count. Continuing to develop his off-speed pitches will help to improve his overall effectiveness on the bump, At 1B, Beets is a big target (6'4"/160) that can get to almost everything thrown his way. He tracks the ball into his mitt, has sure hands with the ability to pick it. As a hitter - this righty shows a balanced setup with rhythm in his hands. He has good zone awareness, not swinging at much that he cannot drive. More power potential is there with more lower 1/2 drive. Once on base, Corbin is aggressive and isn't afraid to challenge the defense and take the extra bag. This 2017 grad has tools with still time to work hard and develop his skills.

05/17/2015 - College PREP - Boise, ID Beets showed as a RHP/1B at the event and continue to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Currently, he projects best at 1B for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.38 runner. Defensive abilities are solid as he displays outstanding foot work around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to get around ground balls and squares up well. Hands are soft /sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, hitting / power grades have improved as well through a squared / athletic setup and an aggressive approach. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 70-75 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and develops better off speed pitches. Corbin has a lot of potential and with a promising future on the diamond.

07/10/2014 - California Select Training & Competition (Session 1) Corbin is a solid 2B that will graduate in 2017. At 2B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more while presenting hands more out front and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows a squared setup with rhythm. Hands are quick and he makes consistent contact. He uses his lower half well and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down to work on time and stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 3 years to further develop, Corbin has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
