01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Corey is a talented 2-way prospect who continues to shine on the diamond. With the bat, this righty stands in with an open setup and rhythm to load. He fires the barrel to and through the zone, connecting and driving the ball with pop. The ball jumps off of his barrel (exit velocity = 88 mph). At 3B, Ballew display's active/athletic actions as he gets onto the balls of his feet. He presents his glove, tracks the GB into a soft mitt, and has a clean/smooth transfer to throw. On the mound, Corey works both sides of the plate with his 3-pitch mix. FB sits around 83 mph while his 12/6 tight curveball proves to be his out pitch. He trusts in it and can throw it for strikes in any count. A very skilled & projectable athlete - Corey has a bright future ahead of him in the game.

07/17/2019 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Corey is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect that continue to show improvement each event we see him. At the hot corner, Corey is on time with his prep step, he presents a low/early glove, and shows range on both sides of the glove. He has good hands and fields the ball in a proper fielding position. He has good instincts off the bat and makes accurate throws around the diamond. At the plate, Corey had several good AB's and showed a middle approach. He keeps the barrel inside the ball and gets to balance with his lower half. He creates backside drive with the lower half and has some pull side power. On the bump, Corey challenge hitters in with his fastball, he showed a frim breaking ball, and a knuckle ball that needs work. He finds a consistent balance point, separates on time, and works down hill. He held runners well and has a good mound presence. Corey has tremendous upside and we hope to see his progress in the future.

02/24/2019 - College PREP - West, TX Corey is a strong 3B/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2021. In the field, Corey shows active footwork and covers ground well. He fields in a square position and makes a clean exchange. He gets rid of the ball quickly and keeps his throws accurate with carry through his target. Fielding the ball out in front of his body can help Corey improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a square stride. He is fluid getting back into his load and hits against a strong front side. He gets extended through the ball and flashes good power to the opposite field. Corey can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Corey gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm and extends through his release, staying inline towards the plate. Corey shows a four pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 80mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 64-67mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 65-68mph. Knuckle ball sits from 57-59mph with good movement. Consistently extending through his finish on his breaking ball can help Corey improve as a pitcher. Overall, Corey is a solid prospect who should find success throughout his sophomore season.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
