Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

09/07/2014 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Brown continues to show as an OF/LHP with steady play in his baseball abilities. In the OF, feet are active as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls through a controlled / aggressive approach. He works to get behind balls but needs to play through more to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a level swing path. Power numbers will continue to increase as he uses his lower half more and create more extension through contact. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-78 mph. Breaking ball displays 12/6 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Command/control are solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches and attacks hitters. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength.

06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Corey showed well in his first tournament setting with the Baseball Factory. On the mound, he threw two pitches - topping out at 76 MPH with his fastball. He throws a 66-68 MPH change-up with arm side run, and has an effortless delivery. Corey has a very projectable, long/thin build - that once filled out could mean greater velo and mound presence. In the outfield, he always plays hard with a positive attitude and an ability to make plays in the gap. He is accurate to throw and will be even better when he continues a long toss program. Offensively, he has a good setup, nice load, and stayed inside the baseball well. Corey currently projects best as an OF, however, when he fills out his pitch ability may keep him on the mound.

03/10/2013 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN Corey is a lanky OF/LHP that will graduate in 2015. Foot speed is average as indicated by his 7.53 60 time. In the OF, he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls as he works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, Brown shows a squared setup with balance. Swing path is level and he makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. He needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize to all fields and improve hitting grade. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 71-73 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run and sink. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is gained through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Corey has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
