Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/OFPosition Projection

05/30/2009 - E-ACR - California 1 Corey had good work out since he improved his 60-time, arm grade, and power grade. At 1B, fields ball out front cleanly with soft hands with the ability to get rid of it quickly. Has decent lateral movement. Showed proper footwork around bag especially on 3-6-3 double plays. Would like to see him start lower so he doesn't reach down for balls. In the OF, was aggressive to balls with the ability to play thru. Get behind fly balls and catches on proper side to utilize quick exchange. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. At the plate, had very good pop when he centered ball. Showed gap-to-gap power. When he had flexion in knees, showed good athletic setup that utilized his power. Proper load position allowed him to keep hands direct to hitting zone.

01/25/2009 - College PREP - La Jolla, CA Corey is a two way player at 1B and in the OF with a tall, strong looking body that does show future projection as it continues to physically mature. Currently, he does project best at 1B where he utilizes his solid body, presenting a good target. Foot speed is average and he needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Glove action is smooth and clean and showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. He does need to utilize his feet more in coming to get and playing through ground balls with his feet and hands. Defensive abilities are solid average in the infield and outfield. Arm strength is solid average and does need to get on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and carry on throws. At the plate, Davis has solid average ability and power. He loads well and maintains balance throughout the swing. Hand path is direct and works inside the baseball, utilizing the entire field. He shows a line drive power that will increase as he learns to utilize his lower half more efficiently through the swing. Hitting grades will also improve quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Corey has potential and has the makings to be a solid player if he continues to work and develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
