Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

07/29/2014 - Under Armour Southwest Championships, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Corey showed good pop in his bat, and played multiple positions at the UA Southwest Championships. Offensively, Corey keeps his hands inside the baseball, he stays through the ball, and has pop into the gaps showing HR power. He will be a run producer, driving the ball the ball with pop to all parts of the field. At 3B / 1B, Corey showed good pre-pitch actions, playable range, and he can throw to his target from multiple arm slots. He shows some good lateral range while maintaining body control and making the tough plays to his right and left. On the hill, Corey stands over the rubber well, he competes in the zone, and attacks hitter aggressively. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape as he throws it with FB arm speed. Changeup has cut and compliments FB well. A versatile player - Corey has skills which will bring success.

12/01/2013 - College PREP - Los Angeles, CA Corey is a talented 2-way player who has a tall frame (6'4"/240 lbs). On the mound, he has a 3-pitch mix coming rom a long/free arm-action. FB cracks the mitt at 85 mph. He gets good glove side lead and drives in-line toward the dish. He is a around the plate with all 3 pitches and lets hit defense work. Developing a more consistent release point will help to improve effectiveness on all pitches. At 3B, Corey shows good pre-pitch footwork, moving well to get around the ball. He has a quick transfer and gets the ball across the diamond with strong throws with life. Offensively, Gambrill displays an upright stance and gets back into a strong loaded position. He uses his lower 1/2 well to generate torque and create pop off of his barrel. Corey is a skilled player who will make an impact on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
