Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/20/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Corey is a coachable 3B/RHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City. In the field, Corey shows efficient footwork and is agile moving to the ball. He gets into an athletic position and makes the routine plays. He flashes a quick exchange and works to make accurate throws to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Corey improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load on time and drives through well with his lower half. He produces fast bat speed through the zone, leading to loud contact and gap to gap pop. Corey can improve as a hitter by taking a more level swing path. On the mound, Corey starts with a simple rock step and keeps his pitches around the zone. He works with a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 78mph. Breaking ball sits from 64-65mph with sharp 11-5 break. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Corey improve as a pitcher. Overall, Corey is a solid prospect who has the potential to further progress his skills on the field.

06/20/2018 - College PREP - Charleston, WV Corey is a solid, strong 3B/RHP who a bright future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with power showing best to the pull side. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth/athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft/sure and he presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound/repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 70-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 3 years to further develop, Corey has a lot of potential and will get looks from collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
