01/17/2014 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Cory is a solid SS/RHP that will graduate in 2016. Currently, he projects best at SS for the next level. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 7.21 60 time. At SS, feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the plays. He moves well laterally, flashing range. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to increase foot quickness and play through balls more while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate he shows an athletic / squared setup with rhythm through an aggressive approach. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact and shows a feel for the barrel through a line drive approach. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to get stride foot down sooner to work on time and let the ball travel more. Power numbers will improve as he learns to load more and use his lower half. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-72 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength, work to throw more strikes, and develops off speed pitches. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 2 years to further develop, Cory has abilities with a lot of room to improve.
