07/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One South Watt continues to show outstanding abilities in his play. Feet are active / aggressive as he attacks ground balls, playing through well while displaying soft / sure hands. He moves well laterally, as he uses his quick feet, displaying range in the MIF. Throws are accurate with on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly, now showing an outstanding arm. At the plate, Cory continues to shine through an athletic setup and has improved his hitting abilities. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 1 for 5.

06/22/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Watt continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a superior runner at 6.76. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. Actions are athletic as he makes all the plays, displaying soft / sure hands and shows big play potential. Defensive grade at SS has improved, now showing outstanding abilities. In the OF, he continues to shine as he reads balls well off the bat and takes proper routes / angles in getting behind the baseball, playing through well. Arm strength has improved with throws displaying life, accuracy, and on line carry through his target. At the plate, hitting grades have improved as well, now showing well above average abilities. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed to and through the ball at contact, creating extension. Barrel accuracy is a plus and he displays strength in his swing. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. At the event, he was 2 for 5 with a 2B. Mental makeup is outstanding as he is a gamer and plays the game hard.

04/21/2013 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Cory is a talented 2-way player as a SS/OF. In the INF, Cory has soft / sure hands, fluid footwork, and he plays through the ball well. He fields in a low position, his exchange is clean, and he throws with a long arm action with carry to his target. A shorter arm action and better throwing accuracy will only improve abilities in the INF. In the OF, Cory works behind the ball well, he reads it off the bat, and his feet are quick. He gets into a good throwing position, and delivers the ball with carry to his target. If Cory can work behind the ball quicker, and follow his throws, OF grades can spike. At the plate, Cory has good balance, quick hands, and a level swing. He has good bat speed and solid pop in his bat. Staying short to the ball and using more lower 1/2 will spike hitting grades.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
