03/14/2021 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Indianapolis, IN Coy continues to show as a top prospect on the diamond. A leadoff type, hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) as he squares the ball up consistently driving it on a line. Defensively, he takes a quick first step (7.21 60 time) and has plus lateral range. He creates angles around the GB with fluid actions. DP turns are quick with zip (88 mph velocity) on his throws. Defensive abilities are outstanding as he shows big play potential. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable as he shows good tempo through a strong balance point, allowing his arm action to work quick and free to the plate. Fastball shows a range of 81-83 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his split finger with arm side run. Command / control is solid as he locates well to both sides of the plate.

03/03/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Coy is a tall SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At SS, Coy shows efficient footwork and flashes good lateral range. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Taking a better prep step can help Coy improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and works to barrel up the baseball. Coy can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Coy separates his hands on time and works with a clean arm. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Coy shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 65-66mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 69-70mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Coy improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Coy has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/22/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Coy is a tall, lean SS/RHP who will graduate in 2022. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry across the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 4 for 9 with 2 2B. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with tight spin and good depth. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Coy has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
