03/03/2019 - National Tryout Plus - Indianapolis, IN Coy is a tall SS/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. At SS, Coy shows efficient footwork and flashes good lateral range. He gets into a low position and fields the ball out in front of his body. He makes a clean exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them consistently on-line to his target. Taking a better prep step can help Coy improve defensively. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and works to barrel up the baseball. Coy can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Coy separates his hands on time and works with a clean arm. He stays inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Coy shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 75mph with arm side run. Breaking ball sits from 65-66mph with 10-4 break. Changeup sits from 69-70mph with sinking action as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Gathering to a balance point over the rubber can help Coy improve as a pitcher. With three more years to develop, Coy has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

07/22/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Coy is a tall, lean SS/RHP who will graduate in 2022. At SS, he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls up. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Hands / feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy / carry across the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. At the event, he was 4 for 9 with 2 2B. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 70-74 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with tight spin and good depth. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Coy has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
