Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

09/26/2021 - All-In Membership - Lansing, KS Coy is a SS/RHP prospect who will graduate in 2022. Tall frame athletic build with strength present and room to add throughout. In the infield, starts with a good prep step as he works to center the baseball with efficient footwork. Creates good fielding angles both glove side and to his backhand side and fields it out front. He fields from a square fielding position with hands out front. Has a short arm action in back and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. Made on-line throws, with good momentum towards target, and an arm velocity up to 81mph. He showed good touch on his DP feeds. He projects better at 3B. On the mound, he has long levers and a projectible frame. Shows a good rear hip coil as he works downhill towards target and ability to change planes with his pitches. He keeps his eyes on his target as rotates to his target. Throws a FB that topped out at 80mph with good arm side run, an 11/5 shaped breaking ball that flashes tight spin and good depth, a slider that looks like his CB but harder, and a changeup with some arm side run that he throws with FB arm speed. At the plate, he hits from an athletic and even stance. Has an effortless swing, with quickness to his hands, and an ability to keep the barrel in the zone for a long time. He hits into a firm front side and gets extended out front. Hit line drives into both gaps with a bat exit velocity up to 75mph. With another year of continued development, we see this 2-way prospect having opportunities to play at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
