08/11/2019 - College PREP - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Crafton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. In the OF, defensive abilities are now well above average as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with on line carry to his target but needs to work to get rid of the baseball quicker. At the plate, power potential in now well above average through a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, he shows a long, loose, and live arm. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 78 mph. Fastball shows a range of 76-78mph with slight tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Crafton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.33 runner. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with carry to his target. At the plate, hitting potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

09/30/2018 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Crafton is an athletic LHP who will graduate in 2020. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and works in line to his target. Fastball showed a range of 67-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Crafton has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
