12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Crafton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. He did show in the OF for the first time at the event. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.33 runner. In the OF, he displays fluid / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls and plays through with momentum to his target. Throws are accurate with carry to his target. At the plate, hitting potential has improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 72-74 mph. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he attacks hitters and throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and is a great teammate.

09/30/2018 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Crafton is an athletic LHP who will graduate in 2020. Delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. He shows good tempo through a strong balance point and works in line to his target. Fastball showed a range of 67-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but throws too hard, resembling fastball. Stock on the mound will continue to increase as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (88 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. With 2 years to further develop, Crafton has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
