08/21/2022 - Official College Recruiting Membership - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Cruz continues show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 6.84 runner. At SS, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean but needs to present more out front. He moves well laterally and utilizes his foot quickness in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry (82 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through an aggressive hip turn.

09/12/2021 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Cruz is a SS prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the diamond. In the field, Cruz shows active footwork and moves well laterally. He fields in an athletic position and has a clean exchange. He gains ground well on his throws and keeps them accurate/on-line to his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short stride. He shows fluid rhythm and drives through well with his lower half. He works through a direct swing with fast bat speed, spraying line drives to all fields. Overall, Cruz is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/18/2021 - Baseball Factory All-State Tournament (HS) Cruz is a 2B prospect who will graduate in 2023. Athletic build and strength present and room to fill throughout. Ran a 6.92 60-yard dash. At 2B, he shows good rhythm to his actions and a good pre-pitch routine. Creates good fielding angles and ability to play behind/through the ball. Showed ability to pick out hops and make routine plays. Throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with throws to first base at 82mph. Hits from the right side with a crouched and even stance. Athletic setup, with a short stride, who showed some power to the pull side. Good approach in live game action as he sprayed balls to all fields, including a 3B, and a bat exit velocity of 83mph. Showed good speed on the base paths. With continued growth and development, we can see Cruz having opportunities to play at the next level.

10/18/2020 - National Evaluation and Tryout - Louisville, KY Cruz continues to shine on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. At SS, defensive abilities have improved, now showing well above average skills as he displays smooth/athletic actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and attacks ball, playing through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers ground. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

11/08/2019 - Baseball Factory's Fall Classic Tournament at Pirate City Cruz is an athletic SS/2B who has a promising future on the diamond. In the MIF, he displays clean/smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable. With 4 years to further develop, Cruz has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
