Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/RHPPosition Projection

07/30/2014 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 1 Acton is a hard worker who brings his all to the field. With the bat, this RHH shows a well balanced approach with good rhythm. Barrel delivery is level as he connects and drives the ball. Increased lower 1/2 drive will help to generate more pop off of the barrel. At 1B, DJ shows plus footwork around the bag. He can make the adjustment to inaccurate throws and can pick balls out of the dirt. Acton also got on the bump and can throw strikes. He remains composed and works to stay on top and work downhill toward the dish. A well rounded player - DJ is a good teammate who plays the game hard.

06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 DJ showed well in the competitive atmosphere of the Omaha National World Series. Defensively, he fielded with ready hands and handled picking the ball well. Offensively, he showed a strong approach and was solid with his lower half use to generate bat speed. He was direct with the hands and was level through the swing. On the mound, he threw three pitches; a FB, 11/5 CB, and CH at 54 MPH. He was able to repeat his delivery and threw a lot of ground balls. Increasing arm strength, foot speed, and his timing to hit will increase overall play ability. All in all, DJ is a good kid, that has a great attitude and work ethic.

03/16/2014 - College PREP - Indianapolis, IN DJ is a two-way player that will graduate in 2015. At first, he has good pre-pitch footwork, gets to a consistent fielding position with good body control and plays through the ball. He is aggressive to come get, but needs to continue to work on his agility and arm strength. Offensively, he gets his lower half loaded and flashed pop when barreled up. He was coordinated with his hands and hips, but could use more hand activation to launch. On the mound, he throws three pitches for strikes - topping out at 72 MPH with his fastball. Mechanically, he gathered over the rubber, and threw a lot of strikes with feel. In all - DJ is a promising player with a big build.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
