Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

06/27/2013 - California Select Training & Competition Dakota is a young C/RHP that showed he is a hard working player that is attentive and coachable. Behind the dish, he tracks well and sits low. He has soft hands and began being a vocal leader as the week progressed. As a hitter, he showed good rotation with a middle approach. He is a contact type hitter that does not try to do too much. On the mound, he is aggressive pounding the zone with his two pitches. He topped out at 69 MPH with a cut fastball and threw his breaking ball for strikes. With more work, Gaucin should make himself into a good high school player.

03/24/2013 - College PREP - Bay Area, CA Dakota is young C/RHP that will graduate in 2016. Behind the plate, Feet are active / aggressive working in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times showed a range of 2.57-2.70 with accuracy to his throws Times will continue to drop as more arm strength is developed through a long toss program and he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Receiving / blocking skills shows as playable tools as he continues to improve. At the plate, Gaucin shows a balanced setup. He loads well and makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 68-73 mph with slight arm side run. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as more arm strength is gained. With 3 years to further develop, Dakota has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
