Official Scouting Report

  • LHP/OFPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Dalton continues to show a prospect on the diamond. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup. Hands are quick (89 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He has strength in his swing and shows a feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. In the OF, he continues to shine. He utilizes his quick/aggressive feet as he moves well laterally, displaying range as he covers a ton of ground. He displays smooth/clean actions with hands/feet working well together through the fielding process as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and zip (90 mph velocity) on his throws. On the mound, this lefty has a 3 pitch arsenal where he keeps hitters guessing. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 87 mph. FB jumps out of his hand and shows with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. He works tall and drives downhill, repeating well. Control is tremendous as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Dalton has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a 2 way guy.

11/03/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Futures Texas Dalton is a talented 2-way prospect with tools and a feel for the game. On the mound he attacks hitters with his fastball to get ahead - throwing it to both sides of the plate. He finishes hitters off with his slider that has 2-plane break and looks like his FB out of the hand. With the addition of a change-up, this LHP will have a solid starting repertoire. As a position player, Dalton flashed some loud tools, running a 6.68 in the 60 and showing 93 mph raw arm strength. His LH swing is natural and fluid allowing him to square up quite a few balls in batting practice before doubling in his first game at bat. He uses the entire field well and flashes some pull side power. Dalton tracks balls well in the outfield with good instincts and has plenty of online carry to his accurate arm. Overall, this LHP/OF plays with a quiet confidence and seems to have a high baseball IQ to go with the physical talents. He's a prospect to watch closely.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
