10/02/2016 - College PREP - Charlotte, NC Dalton continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.13. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with accuracy and carry on his throws. Receiving/blocking skills show as quality tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, he shows a tall, athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He shows good barrel accuracy and works to stay inside the ball utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Dalton has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities as he continues to progress his game.

11/07/2013 - Baseball Factory Select Training & Competition at Pirate City James showed only as a catcher at the event where he continues to show solid abilities. Feet are active and work in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times where in the 2.80 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools at the next level as he continues to improve. At the plate, he displays raw strength in his swing with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve as works to keep hands inside the ball and improve bat speed. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard.

09/29/2013 - College PREP - Charlotte, NC Dalton is a young C/2B that will graduate in 2017. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.60-2.84 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. He is a quiet receiver with a strong wrist and shows potential as a blocker as he continues to improve. At 2B, feet are active as he works to square ground balls up, presenting clean hands. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack ground balls more to play through while presenting hands more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a balanced / squared setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 2 years to further develop, Dalton has abilities with time and room to continue to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
