Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

01/16/2015 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Dalton is a solid RHP that will graduate in 2015. On the mound he attacks hitters and looks to get ahead early. He works both sides of the plate well and keeps hitters off balance with his fastball and slider. His fastball topped at 87mph with late life in the zone and his curve has an 11/5 shape with a sharp break. He pitches to contact and would be an ideal reliever at the next level with his attitude and mindset on the mound.

12/27/2014 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Dalton showed great projection, yet again, at the Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic. On the hill, he proved to have a live arm with quality mechanics and feel for the strike zone. He commanded his fastball with arm side run, spun an 11/5 CB, and showed feel for a CH with sink. Keeping a stronger front side will enable his ability to stay in-line to the target and pound the zone consistently with all pitches. In the OF, he worked with a soft glove and utilized a crow hop to throw with carry and life. Improving foot speed and adding reps to make his routes more efficient will increase play ability at a higher level. At the dish, he makes frequent contact with some strength and went 6-10 in his AB's. Driving with his lower half and loosening his shoulders - to generate more of a line-drive path - will increase hard hit frequency. All in all - Dalton is a strong prospect that has the potential to be an immediate impact guy at the next level.

07/24/2014 - National Tryout - Anchorage, AK Dalton showed only on the mound at the event. Fastball was in the low 80 range with solid sinking action. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Slider resembles breaking ball with shorter break and is harder. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate through a repeatable delivery. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

06/21/2014 - Omaha National World Series - Session 2 Dalton continues to show as an OF/RHP with solid abilities at both spots and has improved his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most improving hitting and power grades through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and make consistent hard contact through a level swing path and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. At the event, he was 3 for 9 with a 3B. In the OF, foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.45 runner. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He plays hard and shows a ton of energy and backs up bases, showing plus instincts. On the mound, Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball is well above average and will get outs at the next level. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock to the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude, works hard, and is very coachable.

01/20/2014 - College PREP - Tucson, AZ Dalton is a RHP with exceptional arm action. The 6'2"/170 lbs hurler hit 82 MPH with his fastball and changed speeds with an 11/5 CB and CH with cut action. Dalton has good pitchability and athleticism that leads us to believe his ceiling is much higher with concentrated bullpens. Offensively, he swings the stick well with good lower half and an aggressive approach. He stays inside the ball and has a level path. In all - Dalton will be a good addition to a pitching staff at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
