Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Dalton is an athletic/projectable OF/RHP who continues to shine every time that he steps onto the diamond. With the bat, this righty displays a balanced setup with fluid rhythm and active hands. Barrel delivery is quick to and through the zone as he squares the ball up and hits hard line-drives. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and covers ground laterally. He secures the ball and has a smooth transfer/exchange to throw, with throws showing carry & accuracy into his target. Strickland also has the ability to get onto the bump and compete. He challenges hitters with an effective 3-pitch mix, varying looks and speeds well. FB cracks the mitt at 86 mph while showing good arm-side run. Curveball has 11/5 shape with late break, proving to be a solid out pitch. This 2020 grad is a 2-way talent who has the tools that will translate well into the next level.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Dalton is an athletic/talented 2-way player who continues to progress. In the OF, he shows active footwork with solid routes/angles to track down fly-balls hit into the gaps. He works behind and through the ball with strong/accurate throws into his target. As a hitter, this righty shows a balanced setup with centered balance. He fires the barrel with quick hands, squares the ball up and drives it on a line (going an impressive 5 for 6 with 5 singles at the event). On the mound, Strickland pounds the zone with strikes. FB cracks the mitt at 76 mph while showing slight cut. He works the ball in and out and challenges hitters to swing the bat. Breaking ball shows 11/5 shape with early action. He finishes complete and fields the position well. Dalton (2020 grad) has a ton of talent with upside as he will only continue to get stronger and build on his already impressive skill-set.

12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Dalton is a coachable 2-way player who worked very hard on his game during his time at Pirate City. In the OF, he displays active footwork as he's ready to move right and left. He hustles to track down the fly-balls, secures the ball with 2-hands and has a clean exchange to throw. Working into position behind the ball more, will allow him to play through and get more into his throws. As a hitter, this righty shows a closed setup as he tracks pitches into the zone. He has rhythm and waits for his pitch (1 single, 2 walks and a HBP). Developing more rhythm to load while creating more extension through contact will result in increased power. On the mound, this righty is a strike thrower. He has quick tempo and works at his pace, not allowing hitters to have a chance to settle in. He works the ball in and out, commanding his FB with cut - 73-76 mph. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape with good action. He keeps runners close as he has a quick pick-off move. Only a 2020 grad - Dalton has tools with upside and a frame that will fill out and get stronger.

10/23/2016 - College PREP - Peachtree City (Atlanta), GA Dalton is an athletic and projectable built OF/RHP prospect who graduates in 2020. In the outfield, Dalton plays with active and effective footwork. He does a nice job to get behind the baseball and field it squarely as he presents his glove. Dalton has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action as he plays with momentum towards his target producing online throws. Offensively, Dalton has a square, crouched stance with a short stride that maintains direction. He does a nice job using all fields with square contact. He is a very advanced hitter for only being a freshman. On the mound, Dalton has a balanced, in-line delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works with good tempo featuring a fastball and curveball. Dalton has good talent and the ability to become even better through development and hard work. He will be one to watch.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
