Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/3BPosition Projection

09/09/2009 - Under Armour Fall Classic - 2009 Hurlimann showed above average arm strength, certainly enough for either left side infield position. He consistently made routine plays in games, and showed good glove side range. Main areas for improvement are quickness in feet and quickness in release. At the plate, he saw the ball deep into the hitting zone - and not surprisingly, hit the ball well to the opposite field in batting practice. In game at bats, it appeared that his open stance caused him some trouble - will need to solidify his lower half in order to handle pitches in more parts of the strike zone. He has a lot of ability to work with, and his left handed bat makes him especially interesting . On the mound, he jumped his top end fastball up from 78 to 81. He threw a lot of strikes, but arm action needs to be lengthened and loosened if he is to pursue pitching. Overall, his value as a college prospect is in his left handed bat and defensive potential.

07/13/2009 - College PREP - Williamsville, NY Dan is a two-way player at SS and on the mound with a thin, solid frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature and fill out. Currently, he projects much better at SS for the next level. Foot speed is near average and he will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. Feet are active and aggressive in coming to get and playing through the baseball. He shows a solid approach. Feet and hands work well together through the fielding and throwing process, displaying above average defensive abilities. Arm strength is near above average displaying life, carry, and accuracy across the diamond. He will benefit by getting on a strict long toss program to aid in further developing more arm strength and raising velocities. At the plate, Hurlimann has above average abilities and power through an aggressive approach. He shows rhythm with his hands working well through the zone. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered, displaying gap to gap power. On the mound, fastball shows run, sitting at 77-78 mph. Breaking ball is best off speed pitch showing solid average while displaying an 11/5 shape with tight spin. Shows average feel for his change up. He throws a knuckleball that tumbles but it is thrown too hard. Stock on the mound will rise as more arm strength is developed. Dan has potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his abilities at SS and at the plate.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
