Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

10/26/2014 - National Tryout - Stillwater (Minneapolis), MN Dan continues to show well on the diamond. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced approach with patience. He lets the ball travel into the zone and waits for his pitch. Barrel delivery is quick as he connects with strength. In the OF, Malak works light on the balls of his feet and covers a lot of ground. He works behind and plays through the ball well. On the bump, this RHP has a 3-pitch mix coming from a clean/free arm action. He repeats his delivery well and works at a smooth tempo. FB now cracks the mitt at 82 mph while showing late arm-side run. Breaking ball has 11/5 shape as he spots it up down in the zone. Dan's solid skill set and versatility on the diamond will provide success in this his senior year.

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Dan showed as a solid junior two-way player (OF/RHP) in his latest Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he showed athletic actions and a sure glove. His throws had some carry and accuracy to them after getting to balls utilizing direct routes. Offensively, he gets activated to launch, staying strong through the zone with good balance. Getting the barrel to be more direct and staying square in his stride will keep him from being exposed on the inner half. On the bump, he showed an ability to compete and make adjustments on his own. Dan had a repeatable delivery and quick tempo that let the game move at his pace. In all - Malak was the epitome of a great teammate with a strong work ethic - making those around him better.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
