Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Dane continues to work hard on his game. On the mound, Dane has fluid / easy mechanics, he rotates through to the target, and he competes in the zone. At 3B, Dane has athletic actions, he gets his glove in a good position, and he plays through the ball with accuracy to his target. Offensively, Dane has good plate discipline as he waits for his pitch. He delivers the barrel through a level swing path. Dane is a coachable player who has a willingness to improve.

10/06/2013 - National Tryout - Trenton, NJ Dane continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities as a 3B/RHP. At 3B, feet are active as he works to square balls up, displaying clean hands through a low approach. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more, play through, and increase foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides of the plate. Hands are loose and works through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact, mainly to the pull side. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to stay back and use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed good arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength and throws more strikes.

07/15/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Dane is a tall, lean RHP/3B that will graduate in 2014. Feet are active as he works to square up balls, displaying clean hands. He shows a clean backhand and works to get rid of the baseball quickly. For defensive grade to continue to improve, he needs to attack balls more to play through, present hands more out front, and increase foot quickness. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he is a switch hitter that shows slightly better from the right side through an athletic / balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run / sink and shows as a quality pitch. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Dane has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
