Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

09/30/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Daniel is a lean OF/RHP prospect who continues to showcase his skills on the field. In the OF, Daniel shows efficient footwork and takes good angles to the ball. He makes the routine plays and works to make accurate throws to his target. Daniel can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He gets into his load and gets good extension through the ball, leading to consistent contact. Daniel can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Daniel keeps his eyes on target as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a loose arm and gets good extension on his release, staying inline towards the plate. Daniel shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 82mph with arm side run. Breaking ball ranges from 65-69mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 71-74mph with arm side run as he throws with deceptive arm speed. Daniel can improve as a pitcher by staying balanced when striding. Overall, Daniel is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/27/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Bellevue (Seattle), WA Daniel continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level / aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and works to stay inside the ball, flashing gap to gap pop. In the OF, he utilizes his feet well in covering a lot of ground. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. Working to get behind balls to play through with momentum to his target will aid in improving defensive abilities. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 65-70 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory Spring Training in Arizona (Ages 14-18) Daniel Brown is a freshman 3B/RHP with a 6'/140 lbs, very projectable, baseball frame. Defensively, he made routine plays and worked in drills to promote his hands further in front and throw with more lower half use. Offensively, he had decent strike zone awareness, drawing two walks in his ABs. He had some feel to hit and worked to implement more rhythm and bat speed with hands and hips. On the mound, he threw a FB and showed an ability to challenge hitters with strikes, not being afraid of contact. Mechanically, he separated on-time and showed some feel through his delivery, but could tune up his balance and lower half drive to help add explosiveness and velocity. All in all - Daniel has time on his side to continue progressing and take his game to another level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
